Automaker Stellantis has issued a recall for more thaan 200,000 cars due to a transmission issue that coukld lead to the cars rolling away.
The recall applies to 298,439 model years 2013-2016 Dodge Darts. Some 2% of those vehicles may have the defect, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
According to the NHTSA , “Some 2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles may experience a transmission shift cable failure. The suspect period began on Feb. 24, 2012, when the first suspect vehicle was produced, and ended on Oct. 4, 2016, when the last suspect vehicle was produced.
“A failure of the shift cable to maintain connection to the transmission can cause an unexpected and unrecoverable loss of PARK (“LoP”) function and/or a vehicle movement in an unintended direction.”
NHTSA said that a fix for the recall is still under development.
The agency said the company were to notify dealers on or about Oct. 16, and begin notifying owners on or about Nov. 6.
