Chrysler recently annoiucned two separate recalls of Ram vehicles.
In the first recall, Chrysler is recalling 265,512 vehicles: model year 2022–2026 Ram ProMaster 1500, 2500 and 3500 vans and 2024–2026 Ram ProMaster 3500 EVs. Water may enter the electric power steering wiring harness, which can disable power steering assist.
A loss of power steering assist increases the risk of a crash. The steering still works, but the effort required to turn the wheel rises sharply and without warning, which matters most at low speeds and in the loaded commercial-van duty cycle these vehicles typically see, according to Chrysler.
Dealers will inspect and replace the wiring harness and electronic power steering gear, as necessary, free of charge. The final remedy is not yet available.
Interim notification letters advising owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed Nov. 17, with additional letters to follow once the final remedy is ready. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403 and reference recall number 92D.
In the second incident, Chrysler is recalling 16,385 model year 2026 Ram 1500 vehicles. The tire pressure monitoring system sensors may fail to detect low tire pressure and/or fail to illuminate the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) warning light as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with FMVSS No. 138, “Tire Pressure Monitoring System.”
A TPMS warning light that fails to notify the driver of low tire pressure increases the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect and replace the tire pressure sensors, as necessary, free of charge.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Oct. 27. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and reference recall number 51D.
