Chrysler recently announced a massive recall of various years and models of Jeep Grand Cherokees to fix a rear coil spring problem.
The automaker is recalling a total of 328,381 vehicles including model year:
- 2021–2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L
- 2022–2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee
- 2022–2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe SUVs.
Chrysler said the rear coil springs may have been installed incorrectly and can detach from the vehicle while driving. A rear coil spring that leaves the vehicle at speed increases the risk of a crash.
This campaign replaces NHTSA recalls 26V051 and 23V413, and vehicles already repaired under either earlier campaign still need the new remedy — a prior recall completion in the service history does not close this one out.
Dealers will replace the rear coil spring lower isolators, free of charge.
Interim letters advising owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed Sept. 29. A second notification will follow once the final remedy is available.
